Piastri: "Our championship fight with Norris will not be like Senna-Prost"

Piastri: "Our championship fight with Norris will not be like Senna-Prost"

Oscar Piastri is currently enjoying the F1 summer break as the championship leader, but after his narrow defeat to Norris in Hungary, he is only nine points ahead with 274 points to be won from the last 10 Grands Prix, including three sprints.

In 1989, when Senna and Prost were teammates, F1's fiercest teammate rivalry erupted after disagreements and perceived favoritism, culminating in Prost winning the championship after the pair collided at the final corner of the Japanese Grand Prix.

But despite his McLaren teammates' history of championship challenges, Piastri revealed no such 'Senna-Prost' warning was issued to him or Norris.

"Everyone knows the history of Senna and Prost, this rivalry and other rivalries outside of McLaren," Piastri said.

"You don't really need an example to create the culture we have now. We both know we want the car and the team to be in this position for many years to come."

"The best way we as drivers can help, besides driving fast, is to instill good morale and confidence in the team and create a good team environment."

"This is very important for us this year and beyond. We've all seen how things can go wrong, but we have every reason to push so they don't," he said.
